Lets say your friends and you decide you want to go deep sea fishing.  Now the hard part… what charter company to go with.  Using this cool tool called SuggestLocal will help with that process and perhaps add some fun to it.  SuggestLocal is a tool for helping people make group decisions as Greg Sterling points out in his blog posting SuggestLocal Offers Collaboration Tools For Local Search. So lets take a brief look at how to get started with SuggestLocal.

Your friends have all decided to go Charter fishing and you suggest using SuggestLocal.  So you pull up SuggestLocal and get started.  Using SuggestLocal you’ll type in a what and and where.  In the what box we’ll type in Charter Fishing.   Then in the where box I’ll type in Pensacola Beach, Florida (considering I live in Pensacola).  Next I’ll click the Search button and I’m returned a list of fishing charters located in the Pensacola Beach area.  The next step would be to select the companies I’m interested and move it to my suggestions box.  At that point I have to option to add notes and then email those suggestions to my friends.  Once my friends receive my email they can see my suggestions, discuss them, read reviews from TripAdvisor, and then arrive at a group decision.

So don’t just read about it.  Visit SuggestLocal to start planning your outings.

Google Page Creator usability increases 31.4% by ZDNet’s Garett Rogers — Ok, the percentage is made up, but the layout for Google Page Creator was indeed given a face lift. The layout controls were moved from the left side to the top — helping users who have lower resolution monitors see everything, and it gives Google more room to add new features in the future. Web Based Photo Editing With Fauxto

Over the past few months I’ve been using Google Docs and Spreadsheets.  It’s tools like these that are shaping the future of the web.  Google Docs has become my main word processing tools since I started using them.  Another tool that’s a must in my toolbox is Photoshop.  Photoshop is the premier photo editing and design tool.  Recently I was thinking how cool it would be if someone came out with a web based image editing tool like Docs and Spreadsheets.  Then I came across 10 Questions with Fauxto, the web based photo editing tool.  This blog posting reviews Fauxto, an image editing tool that was build in Flex.

Fauxto is not Photoshop but it’s a step in that direction.  I signed up for my free account to give Fauxto a test drive and was pretty impressed at what I saw.  The cool part is what you see is a work in progress.  One look at the Fauxto blog and you’ll see they are continuously launching new releases of the tool.

The brief time I used Fauxto I was able to open images from my computer, create new ones, work with the layers, and apply effects to the layers.  The Fauxto team has done a tremendous job in creating this new hot application.

It’s tools like these that catch my attention.  I’m a Christian and very interested in missions.  These tools can be a great help to missionaries and other small organizations that don’t have big pockets to buy all the latest and greatest tools.  So go ahead and test it out and let me know what you think in the comments.

Side note: Make sure when you test it out to click the magic wand in the layer pallet to apply drop shadows, bevels, and more.

Enjoy!

Today I was wanting to download a video from YouTube.  So I started doing some google searches.  I found the article Download YouTube Video With Greasemonkey Script on lifehack.org which provided the answer.  I tried using Greasemonkey but I had dificulty with it so I tried the second option they mentioned.  That option was using a service like VideoDL.  VideoDL proved to be just what I looking for.  VideoDL is a cool web tool that will allow you to download video from YouTube, Google Video, or Break.com.  Using VideoDL is simple.  Just paste the URL into the text box and click the “Get It!” button.  You will need an FLV player to view the video after you download the file.  The player is free.  Enjoy.

The computer has transformed the way many of us live.  For myself, I can tweak my digital photos, communicate with friends, download and listen to music, and so much more.  As a web guy I can also quickly communicate information for anyone to see.  It seems lately things are moving quickly to integrate the computer, TV, and even mobile phones.  Your computer is the starting point for digital media and now Apple has thrown in another piece to the puzzle, Apple TV.

Apple TV brings your digital life to the TV.  Using Apple TV you can watch movies, TV Shows, movie trailers, podcasts, and view photos that are on your computer on your TV.  So if you just downloaded your favorite movie from iTunes your computer will wirelessly sync the new flick to Apple TV.  After that just grab the Apple Remote, kick back, and watch your movie on your TV.

Apple Store Apple TV will connect wirelessly via an HDMI port or component video and audio port.  According to Apple its syncs super fast using 802.11 wireless capability.  Your Apple TV will stay in sync with your computer.  If you change anything in your iTunes library it will also change on your Apple TV.

For those of you who enjoy your digital photos you’ll enjoy them even better as the appear in high definition on your TV.  Using Apple TV your computer will sync up your digital photos from iPhoto on a Mac or Adobe Photoshop Elements on a PC.  So kick back with your family and enjoy a digital slideshow.

Apple TV will connect to more than one PC or Mac.  Apple TV will allow you to connect up to five additional computers.  This will allow friends and family to stream their iTunes libraries to your TV.  The Apple TV will store up to 50 hours of video.
